Connecticut College, also known as Conn College or simply Conn, is a private liberal arts college located in New London, which is a US seaport city, located at the mouth of the Thames River, in New London County, Connecticut, with a population of over 25 000 inhabitants, estimated during the 2000 census.
Connecticut College was founded in 1911, as a response to Wesleyan University's decision to stop admitting women, increasing desire amongst women for higher education. Since then, the college grew, today being ranked 83rd in Forbes' America's Best Colleges list in 2010, also being included among U.S. News and World Report's top fifty liberal arts colleges in 2010, being currently best known for its interdisciplinary studies, international programs and study-abroad programs, funded internships, student-faculty research, service learning, and shared governance.
Conn's sports teams are known as the Connecticut College Camels, which compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are blue and white, and their mascot is, obviously, the Camel.
Over the years, Conn College has produced numerous noteworthy alumni, among the most resonant names on the list, also being: Nan Kempner - socialite, contributing editor of Vogue, Marcia Tucker - first female curator of the Whitney Museum, founding Director of the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Kevin Wade - screenwriter (Working Girl, Meet Joe Black), and Tim Armstrong (executive) - CEO of America Online (AOL), former Google Inc., Vice President, Advertising Sales.
